I found a cool website that lets you upload your art and put it into these museum photos. It is interesting to imagine my work this large.

Commissions »

I disagree with people who have the impression that artists who do commissions are compromising their work. Some artist’s work may be too personal for commissions, and I respect that, however, I find commissions challenging and delightful!

If someone sees a work of mine with a composition they are drawn to but with colors they are not (or vice versa), I love the challenge of making something that would speak to them. As far as compromising my vision, I would never make a piece that I wasn’t proud to put my name on.

In the last several weeks, I have had the pleasure to work on two big commissions. The first one came about because a woman found a piece on my website that was, unfortunately, sold. I ended up making her two pieces similar to the one she liked, with a slight tweak in color. When I delivered them, we were both very pleased with how it looked on her walls.

The commission I am working on now is based off of a piece of mine called “yellow rock daffodil”. These folks loved the composition but were looking for something bigger with different hues. I visited the room they were looking to buy a piece to hang. We chose some colors and I hope they like what I’ve been working on, because I do!

Below are some photos of these commissions.

The Fair Report »

Despite the injury and weather, the Edina Art Fair went very well. I owe Cass and Chris BIG for all their help. I sold five paintings (shown below).

Thanks also to Dad, Ryan, Jenny and family and all the other people who support me! I’m a lucky gal.

Edina Art Fair – Day One »

Ok, this blog entry will be somewhat like a diary entry – so someday I can look back at it and laugh. I hope.

The Edina Art Fair is, to date, the largest fair I have ever prepared for. Having a new tent (because of the last disaster of a blow-away-tent), I set it up in our back yard. All went well until Thursady night – the night I was scheduled to set up my tent at the fair (scheduled tent set-up time was 9pm!).

My incredibly attractive face after stitches

Feeling confident, I began disassembling the tent in our yard with Chris. Before much happened, I walked over to the taught bungee cords on the tent and said (no joke): “Let me take these off first so we don’t kill ourselves”. Two seconds later, I had a bungee cord lash loose and hit me in the lip – making a huge gash! It didn’t hurt, and I thought I was fine until I saw Chris’s face. He talked me into going to Urgent Care.

Three stitches later, I had a huge fat lip, and about a half an hour to get that damn tent up in Edina.

Thankfully, Chris, my sister Cassidy and her husband Clint came to my rescue. With only a few wise cracks about my face, they helped me load, transport and set up the tent in the dark that night. For such loving help, I forgive their constant singing of Prince songs and Clint’s joke: “ I love my art in-tense”. Get it “in tents”? Wowsers, that is awful!

All in all, this morning my lip looked a little better and I sold one painting (which paid for the entrance fee for the fair) today.

So, the last fair my tent blew away and broke. My second fair, I gashed my face open. Am I done now?! Ha!

The next two days are supposed to be rainy and miserable. I am keeping my faith things will be ok. I mean, what else could possibly happen?? So, wish me luck with your thoughts.

Even with all the crappy stuff that has happened, I had wonderful, uplifting feedback today. A special thanks to Krista, from the gallery Krista Artista, Ms. Nancy Zozel, a collector who introduced herself as having three of my paintings on her wall! The cute couple whose names escape me, but he is Brazilian and she is a gorgeous blonde and their dog is named Lilly. My super-duperly supportive parents Mom and Richard. My incredibly cool booth neighbor Wendy, and all the people who gave me lovely complements.

Thank you!
